U.S. T&G Profile - Floor Installation Tips

- Lay Properly
- Snap chalk line across joist for panel edge alignment
- Lay first row of panels with tongue side to the wall
- Orient panels with face grain across supports
- Stagger end joints
- Maintain Proper Gaps Between Panels
- Leave a 3/32" expansion gap between tongue and grooved panel edges and between panel ends (about the width of a 6d nail).
- Fasten Securely
- Nail every 6" around panel perimeter and 12" on intermediate supports. See your local building code for other approved fasteners.
19/32"-3/4" - 6d ring or screw shank nails, 8d common nails
Note: A
A second layer of 5/16" underlayment is recommended under ceramic tile and resilient floor coverings. In all cases review installation instructions of the floor covering manufacturer for recommended subfloor/underlayment specification and preparation.
Note: B
Adding a bead of elastomeric glue into the T&G and also between the joist and the panel helps eliminate squeaks and nail popping and increases floor stiffness.
