If decay is a concern, it should be treated with a pressure-preservative to an appropriate standard Marine Grade is a wood product and if exposed to the elements even with a paint or stain applied, the rain, sun, snow, ice etc may check/split and shell the panel due to the panel expanding and shrinking. If used for exterior purposes, the panel must be sealed to prevent the elements affecting the panel. Refer to paint manufacturer's recommendations to protect the panel, ie: fiberglass etc.
