VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS - VOC's

Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Emissions from CANPLY EXTERIOR Plywood

Due to increasing concerns about the emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (“VOC’s”) from building products, the Canadian Plywood Association (CANPLY) commissioned Forintek Canada Corporation to conduct comprehensive tests on plywood products produced by CANPLY Members.  Both Canadian Softwood Plywood (CSP) and Douglas Fir Plywood (DFP) were tested, with the results as below:

Measured VOC                Emission Level
Toluene                                Not Detected
o-Xylene                             Not Detected
Ethylbenzene                       Not Detected
Styrene                       Not Detected

Notes:
  1. Concentrations expressed as alpha-Pinene.
  2. Based on third party testing conducted by Forintek Canada Corporation (2001) Small Test Chamber methodology consistent with ASTM D5116

Specify CANPLY EXTERIOR Plywood Not all panel products are the same.
Other products and their adhesives may emit higher VOC levels.  All panels certified as CANPLY  EXTERIOR plywood are manufactured using only phenol formaldehyde glue, and undergo extensive quality control and testing during manufacture and in the CANPLY laboratory to meet stringent requirements. The CANPLY mark is an assurance to buyers that panels meet the high standards established by the industry and that they will perform in a satisfactory and predictable manner.
