PHYTOSANITARY REGULATIONS

The Product CANPLY EXTERIOR plywood is manufactured by member companies of the Canadian Plywood Association (CANPLY), and is identified by the certification mark as below, or a CANPLY EXTERIOR edge stamp as found on sanded grades.

The Manufacturing Process CANPLY EXTERIOR plywood undergoes extreme temperatures and pressures during the manufacturing process.  The wood is subject to temperatures exceeding 135°C (300°F) during kiln drying of the veneer. Additionally, panels undergo pressures of 7.2 kPa (150 psi) at temperatures above 105°C (221°F) during pressing. This ensures CANPLY plywood is free of living organisms when the manufacturing process is complete.

Internationally Accepted Every country has its own phytosanitary requirements for imported wood products and packaging, however, CANPLY EXTERIOR plywood has been accepted internationally under all known phytosanitary regulations for over 30 years.

Many countries are adopting Document ISPM #15 - Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade, which was developed under the International Plant Protection Convention, and recognizes plywood as a “processed wood material” - exempting it from fumigation/heat treatment requirements.

In particular, European Union (EU) countries have required phytosanitary certification for imported wood packaging made of coniferous material since 2001. In response, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency developed the Canadian Wood Packaging Certification Program to satisfy the EU import requirements. Under this program, plywood is considered a “manufactured wood product” and is exempt from any fumigation/heat treatment requirements.

Specify CANPLY EXTERIOR Plywood All panels undergo extensive quality control and testing, during manufacture and in the CANPLY laboratory, to meet stringent requirements. The CANPLY mark is an assurance to buyers that panels meet the high standards established by the industry, and that they will perform in a satisfactory and predictable manner.
